PIRATUS-NO-INTERRUPT-US

We are now in the Red Sea and out of danger but.............

We were in port 3 nights ago in Salala Oman ready to go into dangerous waters where pirates lurk
off the coast of Somalia. (I still have to blog about Dubai, UAE and 2 stops in Oman - later.)
Anyway, we had to be back on board by 5pm but the ship was not departing Salala until midnight since they had to prepare the ship before departing.

The captain came on the PA and said that they had to specially prepare the ship for the Gulf of Aden and that we would have to lock our balcony doors, not go out on decks 5 and 6 and 7, 8, in the back. Not go out on deck 10 in the front but could go up on deck 11.  We had to stay indoors as much as possible and had to wait until midnight since we would be traveling in a convoy between other ships and that we would be going to travel at 20 knots, the fastest the ship can do!

HOORAY HOORAY - WE ARE GOING TO EGYPT AS ORIGINALLY SCHEDULED!!!
THE CAPTAIN JUST MADE THE ANNOUNCEMENT!!!!

Anyway,  we watched as they prepared the ship for departure and here are some pictures.

It took about 3 hours but the ship was gradually surrounded by cargo containers 2 high with only one way in and out.  There were trucks, trucks and trucks bringing in the containers.  We watched to whole process from the top deck.

This was off the port side - there is a helicopter at the back and a gun on the front that travelled a little with us yesterday.
The helicopter on the next photo was British - no flag on this gun ship.

We still have 2 days to go on the ship till we get to Safaga Egypt!
